| 외국어설명 | An image of a tiger looking up at a magpie perched on a pine tree is a common theme in Korean folk painting. Tigers were regarded as the king of all beasts and as guardians that repelled evil spirits and disastrous powers. Tiger paintings were often featured as New Year’s paintings pasted on house gates. In contrast, the magpie is a relatively small and weak creature. The relationship of these two animals in folk paintings was often satirically compared to the ruling class and common people. Here, the tiger is depicted with a goofy face and appearance, while the magpie on the tree appears to be lecturing to the tiger. |
