Album of a Gathering of Senior Officials was created to commemorate the 1719 entry of King Sukjong (肅宗, r. 1667–1674) into the Giroso (Club of Senior Officials). It includes scenes from the event celebrating his entry, a poem composed by the king for the event, portraits of participants, and poems they authored. It was completed in 1720. Twelve editions of the album were produced: one stored at the Giroso and the rest given out to eleven senior officials. The album at the National Museum of Korea and the one in a private collection have been designed as national treasures, and the one at Ewha Womans University Museum has been named a treasure. These albums are almost identical, but the National Museum of Korea edition bears a title reading “Album of the Gathering of Senior Officials in the Gihae Year” (己亥耆社帖), while the title on the Ewha Womans University Museum edition reads “Album of the Gathering of Senior Officials” (耆社契帖).
Each album consists of fifty-four leaves, including a preface, a congratulatory poem, a postscript, a list of event participants, documentary paintings depicting five scenes from the event, portraits of ten senior officials, poems, and a list of painters and calligraphers. The ten senior officials featured from the twenty-third to the thirty-second leaves are Yi Yu (李濡, 1645–1721), Kim Chang-jip (金昌集, 1648–1722), Kim U-hang (金宇杭, 1649–1723), Hwang Heum (黃欽, 1639–1730), Kang Hyeon (姜鋧, 1650–1733), Hong Man-jo (洪萬朝, 1645–1725), Yi Seon-bu (李善溥, 1646–1721), Jeong Ho (鄭澔, 1648–1736), Shin Im (申銋, 1639–1725), and Yim Bang (任埅, 1640–1724).
Each official is depicted wearing a samo (official’s silk winged hat), dallyeong (round-necked robe), and sapgeumdae (belt with gold ornaments). The rank badges on their dallyeong have either a crane design or double-crane design, depending on their rank. The officials are shown with their bodies turned slightly to their right. Characteristics of portraits made in the first half of the eighteenth century, such as wide sleeves, a tall samo hat, and a deeply cut dallyeong collar, are evident in the depictions of these officials. The court painters who participated in the production of these albums include Kim Jin-yeo (金振汝, 1675–1760), Jang Tae-heung (張泰興, ?–after 1729), Bak Dong-bo (朴東普, 1663–after 1735), Jang Deuk-man (張得萬, 1684–1764), and Heo Suk (許俶, 1688–?).
