This is a painting album created to commemorate King Sukjong’s entry into the Giroso (Club for the Elderly Officials) at the age of fifty-nine in 1719. It was originally owned by Hong Man-jo, a member of the Giroso who took part in the banquet. It has been preserved and handed down by his descendants. Its status was promoted from Treasure to National Treasure in 2020 in recognition of its value given that its case has survived as well. This album shares affinities with other extant editions of Painting Album of the Gathering of Elders in terms of the inclusion of half-length portraits of the ten Giroso members and the banquet scenes. However, it is considered particularly important since it carries inscriptions that indicate it was in the collection of Hong's clan. These marks state “collection of Mantoedang” and “handed down to the family and cherished by it.”
